For France: her sentiments for Poland translate to the people of France, however, she openly disapproves of such violent means of uprising. Overall, where concerns French sentiment, because of her noble title and allegiance to Poland, she must remain considerably neutral. Social Status and/or Occupation: Polish Nobility Brief physical description of your character: Theodozja is a physically fit, slender, strong Polish woman. Her features are rather fair, her eyes green and her hair a light brown, almost blond. She has uncommon physical strength for a woman of her station. Brief description of your characters history, including family: Theodozja Zamoyski was born into the well-known Zamoyski family. Their intricate lineage of the Zamoyski line can be traced back to the 1500's when her ancestors settled in what would become Halicz, a city in southern Poland, not a far distance from Russia. Her ancestors founded the original city of Halicz and were responsible for the protection of the city during its construction. Her father, grandfather, great-grandfather lead military forces and all of them held the title of Great Crown Chancellor, a position concerning the managing of both foreign and domestic politics. Over the course of their generations, the family did much to promote the arts and literature, as well as help establish a University and expand the size and strenght of the city. The Zamoyski estates and grounds compensate a large portion of the northern area of the city and their vast fortune is undeniable. Theodozja's father, Aleksander, spent most of his life working to abolish serfdom, encouraging parliament to reform its policies for the improvement of life for the middle and lower classes. His work, while primarily done on Polish soil, brought him to numerous European countries including Russia, Austria, Prussia, France and England. Seeing the uprising of the classes in France was a constant reminder for him to continue supporting reforms in his native country. Aleksander also spent much time working to rectify relations between Russia and Poland, especially since Russians were in the process of planning invasions and were quietly taking over Polish lands. However, his attempts had not amounted to much and his fears of an impending war often pervaded his consciousness. Rivalries with neighboring families also rose to a startling climax when rivalries with neighboring families and towns escalated to fighting. During one particularly horrendous fight, Aleksander's nephew, Jan, was murdered by Sergius Petrov. Jan had come to be like a second son to Aleksander and his desire was for Jan to become a diplomat like himself. Michal, Aleksander's son, also could not contain his emotions at the loss of his dear cousin. The gentleman sought action but none could be accomplished as the villain fled from Poland with incredible speed. However, this occasion put a huge divide between Polish and Russian groups within villages and especially in Halicz where the Zamoyski's controlled virtually everything. The Zamoyski family still desires to avenge the death of their beloved Jan. This highly charged political atmosphere was the backdrop for most of Theodozja's childhood. While being brought up in the manner of all proper young noblewomen, Theodozja's instruction included numerous languages, history, mathematics, and other subjects usually reserved for men. Her father and brother also instructed her how to ride, fire a gun, and use a sword, much to her mother's dismay. Her childhood was a happy one and although her desires often drew her to masculine persuits, she never neglected her feminine duties and pleased both of her parents as equally as she was able. At age 17, she was engaged to Tomasz, a noble son of the Grawlinski family. The Grawlinski family took a similar political stance as the Zamoyski's did, thus her parents hope that the union of families would provide an even stronger voice from the nobility in favor of political reform. Tomasz and Theodozja began a proper courtship and slowly begun to develop a fondness for one another. Unfortunately, their growing attraction would never develop. Tomasz, his father, Theodozja's father, and brother all were called to travel to St. Petersburg for a series of political meetings. The journey was a long and difficult one to make and while in the city, Tomasz began to notice the onslaught of illness. He did not survive the journey back due to the fever claiming him one evening as the party stopped to rest. The passing of Tomasz was difficult for Theodozja to bear and her future life plans immediately were halted. While she mourned the loss of her fiancee, Theodozja focused her energies into assisting her father in his political endeavors. Once her mourning period was over, she even began to accompany him on his travels and began functioning almost as his assistant. While this was not entirely an appropriate enterprise for a young woman, no suitors had presented themselves who could compete with the Zamoyski's expectations. This is not to deny, however, that Theodozja's beauty had not attracted a fair share of gentlemen, with whom she may have even corresponded. At present, however, her heart is occupied mainly with Polish national sentiment and with hopes for her father's work to succeed. Currently she is making a voyage to England to function as a sort of cultural liaison to Halicz. She plans to absorb the English cultural and political scene and to bring back items (books, art, etc.) to the University in Halicz. This is, of course, her external pretense. While she accomplishes this task she also plans to correspond with her father frequently while awaiting his arrival. Currently he is engaged in a series of meetings in Russia. | |||||||||
